Overseer Demons

Overseer Demons

General Description

These monstrous demons can weigh in as much as 15 tons at 120ft. They can have many different colors, but they all share a blue luminescence that is displayed on their limbs. Overseer demons are the evolved and sentient form of gurud demons.

Young overseer demons seclude themselves so they can gain strength and power. Sometimes, they will form packs from dire gurud that swarm the hellscape. Centuries later, they are considered Arch Magis from demon kind, as they have grown in such strength and magical prowess. In common tongue, they are called Dragul.

Sigil Craft

Overseer demons created and perfected their own form of spell casting called Sigil craft. It is derived from the innate magic in these demons and is recognized at a young age in a burst of raw power. Sigil craft forces this power into a fine point through the use of the sigil craft alphabet and with the right combination of letters, it can unleash hell upon those unlucky enough to come across these sentient beings. Without absolute perfection when performing these spells, the blowback on the caster could be catastrophic. Masters of the craft created a shorthand that speeds up the process to deliver the magical blow onto their enemies.

History

For centuries, the overseers ruled hell, each carving out a territory and they managed to keep the peace amongst themselves. Secundis the Immortal changed that by hunting the Overseer demons, taking control of hell. His subordinates, the Elite Caste, nearly wiped them out. Those that survived this purge went into hiding.

Dwaugs

HeightAverage 4’
General DescriptionLarge nose, stocky, gopher-like

The Dwaug Species

This sentient mammal primarily lives in the under-ways mining and foraging, away from the reach of the Celestials. They are highly skilled artisans and are known for creating the Artisan Masks and the Dwaug War Golem.

Some tribes choose to live close to the surface and rely on heavy rains to dislodge bones or lost items that they can used for trade while others live near the coastal waters hunting for food or searching for lost trinkets. The dwaug culture is focused solely on Dwaug Corp, which acts as both the exploratory force and military force. Each dwaug begins in the Corp, slowly rising through the ranks as they gain experience.

For the most part, the tribes live separately from one another but will attend The Meeting of Hobs once a year.

The Meeting of Hobs is a week long event where the tribal leaders convene in Draugvuan, a hidden and holy city, to establish plans and regulations to ensure the protection and survival of their species.

Before gaining his place in the forge, Janathar survived off the nutrients of the dead or dying near a pit of hell. He was later found by Secundis, the former King of Hell, who installed him to rule the forge and run it as he saw fit only as long as the agreed upon quota was met. Using his knowledge of the Ichor of Life, he bred the Kyr Forge Demons into existence through extensive trial and error. Janathar came to rule the demon forges using these demons to speed up his work and would occasionally eat those that he deemed unmotivated.

After the war, Xereon chose to allow Janathar to survive and maintain his role in the forge because of his extensive knowledge and tools at his disposal. Xereon later commissioned him to design The Accelerator to age his son, Hellgrim, to begin his training as ”hell’s greatest weapon”.

Since then, Janathar keeps to himself and remains locked up in the forge due to him distrust of others.

Byglans

Byglans

Height:3’-4’
Weight:45-100lbs
Habitat:Forest/Plains
Identification:Spherical, bowed legs, long arms

Byglan’s are extremely aggressive pack animals that roam around Acheron causing mayhem in their midst. These nomadic creatures will ambush it’s prey, blending in with it’s surroundings as a shrub or other small plants. They have coarse fur that ranges from a dusty brown to a dark orange. The hard nodules that sprout from their body add an extra defense when faced in a battle.

While they don’t normally have a pack-leader, they have a swarm-like mentality and will use larger game to help take down their prey. Byglan’s dislike most things that are not Byglan’s, meaning they will usually attack or hunt anything or anyone they encounter. They will often use hand-crafted weapons or found items to assist in the hunt. They are primarily carnivorous, but will graze on vegetation if necessary.

Little is known about their reproduction habits as they are too aggressive to get close to learn more.

Xereon the Betrayer King

Class: Demon Overseer

Height6”
Weight280lbs
General
Description:
stocky, blue hair,
grey-colored skin
Rank: King of Hell
Knowledge
Base:
Master of Sigilcraft
(spells derived
from symbols)

History

In the pits of Hell, Xereon crawled up through the ranks of demon kind through lies and subterfuge.

Over 100 years ago the Celestial War broke out, Xereon formed his own private army of the Ashier caste demons (house-less demons). He offered those who were most loyal to Secundis, the current king of hell, his services in return for higher caste recognition. He betrayed both the Titan and Demon clans by pulling his army out of the final battle; the total desecration of the Demon clans allowed him the opportunity to seize the throne and rule hell as it’s King.

About Overseers (demon race)

One of the more powerful races due to their physical strength and sheer intelligence. Overseer’s created the magic called Sigilcraft (spells derived from symbols) to obtain more power. Xereon became the first to be able to alter himself to a weaker bi-pedal form to reach of top. Believed to be a threat, the Elite caste hunted the Overseer’s before the Celestial War and were close to eliminating them.

Personal

Met Hellgrim’s mother, Valeria, Queen of Titans, in the early stages of the Celestial War by saving her on the battleground. Eventually she bore a child whom he cut out of her womb and returned to hell with him. The child, Hellgrim, was placed in a bio-machine built by Jnathar to accelerate aging so he could begin molding him into Hell’s Greatest Weapon. Once Hellgrim escaped hell, Xereon allowed him to remain on Acheron to study. He currently remains in Hell breeding engines of war to eradicate all life on lesser plains.

Northlanders: The Plague Widow

Comic Review: Northlanders Plague Widow

Author: Brain Wood, Illustrator: Leandro Fernández

Taking place in a small town over 1000 years ago, a plague strikes the population and the first signs of illness is a death sentence. A man approaches the town elders with a crazy theory to save the townspeople – expel all those with the plague and seal the gates, preventing any one else from getting sick. The story then focuses on a widow and her child, who have to survive a long winter with no man to protect them from the brutes who control the town.

This story is a realistic fiction at what life was like as a female widow during the viking times. It’s a straight-forward look at the trials that she goes through and, while (SPOILER ALERT) the bad guys lose and the town is freed from the grips of a tyrant, this woman still isn’t safe and is forced to leave the town.

This is a fair choice as an introduction to the comic realm. The panels flowed freely and was easy to read. While I haven’t read many comics (yet), those that I have can sometimes be challenging to keep track of. Each panel retains enough information to understand the plot and each chapter is broken up into full pages of more detailed work.
